I want to personally thank everyone at ARRI for making the Alexa M possible.

I have talked to several DPs and I think there are many out there that think the Alexa M is mainly for 3D applications.
The Alexa M does a lot more; as we do not do 3D.

Everything works/fits together perfectly with our Alexa M now on set. The Alexa M head actually fits in the palm of my hand.

We added the Alexa M to our production gear for these reasons:
Fits in small/tight spaces
Alexa M Head will allow for low to the ground shots (amazingly only ~3.5 inches from the ground to the center of the lens!)
Quick changes for positioning shots in general set area
The light weight Alexa M Head allows for use with many more light weight smaller fluid heads & tripods
Motorized pan tilt head cost options are lower with lighter Alexa M Head
Alexa M Head on underslung jib arm head is more stable to hand operate
Electronic View Finder on Alexa M Head can adjust white balance, shuttle speed, frame rate and exposure index - all from the head unit.
ARRI supplies a 65 foot fiber cable that actually powers the head with no needed additional power for the head unit.
Alexa M Head has the proper plug-ins to power a follow focus motor and remote recording trigger
Alexa M Head works with both 19mm and 15mm support systems.
Alexa M has the 4:3 Sensor Mode
Alexa M has the anamorphic de-squeeze

We love the standard ARRI Alexa & we are beyond excited with the extra latitude the Alexa M adds to our production capabilities.

We have been using the Alexa M and are very pleased with it.
It is important to mention that ARRI's super thin 16 foot (5 Meters) SMPTE
cable really keeps the cords to an absolute minimum on set
and in the field for the operator. It has been nicer to have the body separate
with its connections for the audio, power, monitor out, ARRIRAW recorder (Gemini444), etc.

The Alexa M Body is normally positioned right next to our monitor in a roll cart for easy play back on set...
