I'm doing a little research on the D-21 since we have a shoot with it next weekend. I've been asked to research how the post is handled. Despite repeated requests, I do not know what hardware they will be using for acquisition. I'm assuming it's going to be file based instead of SR tape or direct capture with the AJA board. I've started looking over datasheets and workflow diagrams from Codex, S.two, and Keisoku Giken. My current questions are: How do you actually get the offline footage off the recorders,(firewire, SATA, USB)? And, does Apple color support the ARRIRAW files or do you have to convert them all to DPX with the ARC tool?

Well since Byron doesnt know how it will be captured or what deliverables are necessary a response is a bit difficult, but we do have a whole section regarding workflow with ARRIRAW here at on our website under Technical. http://www.arridigital.com/technical/imaging-technology/arriraw

FCP does not support ARRIRAW>DPX yet... so ARC would work just fine, only for now you'll need Windows or Linux.

You can use Glue tools to access Arri raw files in Apple color since Glue tools makes arri raw files to be accessed via Quick time.

Check their website link - http://www.gluetools.com/downloads_arriraw.html

Hi byronnash and Tajkowski,

the upcoming Silverstack v2.0 software (available June/July) will support different workflows with the D-21 and Alexa cameras including ARRIRAW material. For a general overview of workflow options there is a workflow page in the PDF available at
http://pomfort.com/silverstack2/
http://pomfort.com/silverstack2/SilverStackNAB10.pdf

The current version Silverstack 1.6 already supports ARRIRAW too, but with reduced workflow support. So if you have any questions (on workflow or on tools), feel free to contact me - either here or via our website. We already supported several ARRIRAW projects, so maybe our experience could help.

Best,
Patrick

Another option is Gamma & Density 3CP. They are more of a one light on set system but can produce offline and dailies from the raw files ARRI included.
