hello,
in the alexa faq it mentions a "alexa remote control web page" under the remote control topic... but i can't find any info about this on the net otherwise.

i am searching for a way to receive the clip name generated by the camera, without having to check the side of the camera all the time.

is this possible to read the camera meta data through the lemo ethernet connection?

thanks for your help,
max

There is an option to display this info in the monitor out - right on top of the image.

If this is no option you should be able to see reel and clip number if you are connected by ethernet. However, it does not show the complete file name with date and camera serial.
Use in the link below while you are connected to the camera - make sure your Ethernet setting is in DHCP mode and you have to replace the 4 digits with the serial number of your camera.

There will be soon also a wireless network adapter available that will make this available over Wifi.

The WNA-1 has not yet been available to order.
There are a small number of beta units in circulation.
Hopefully after NAB it will become available.

Any word on this adapter yet? I have also scoured the web looking for control away from the camera. It seems that the WNA-1 debuted at NAB2011 so what's the hold up?

I would look at the following:

http://www.minicaster.com/minicaster-goes-arri-alexa/
http://www.teradek.com/thenewcube.html

We demoed their technology at our booth during NAB.

I personally have investigated these options and have a few emails out but have not heard back yet from either minicaster or teradek. I am unclear about whether or not the WNA-1 would be required for control of the camera or if the tools from these other companies can interface with the camera on their own? Would I need to tether the cube/minicaster to the camera via the lemo ethernet as well as SDI for video?

I assume that there would need to be some form of data connection to the camera from these devices otherwise there would be no avenue for control. So far I am only talking about the original alexa and not the the plus, studio, or M as that is what I have worked with most.

Nathan,

You would connect the ethernet (lemo) and the HS-SDI to the minicaster or cube without the WNA-1.  They are the wireless router.  Through those platforms you have video and control.  They should work with any model Alexa.

Copy that! So then I suppose my question would then be, what exactly is the design for the wna-1? Would it be to add control but not necessarily video? Not that it is particularly important I'm just curious at this point.

You are exactly right.
WNA-1 was only going to be a wireless access point allowing you to interface with the camera without using the ethernet cable.
The two third party products that Michael mentions have this functionality already and are physically smaller so I would think  it makes the WNA-1 obsolete.
