Does anybody have any experience using the Pancro IRND Hot mirror on the Alexa ?
Interested to hear any real world experience. I have used them on Red MX and they a fine job of keeping the blacks clean.

Here's an .mov with various different IR filters.

Shot: ProRes 444, LogC.
Filters: 1.8 IR filters (HOT MIRROR, PANCRO, Platinum, Tiffen IRND) stacked infront of 1.2 Tiffen ND

hope this helps a little bit

Regarding filtertest: Thanks for sharing this test! It would help if the ARRI LUT were applied to
be able to judge the what the filter does with the colors (or you provide a download with
the original prores). You also should always do a clean version with no filter as a reference.
If there is too much light, you can help yourself with ASA and shutter too.

IR- Filtering on Alexa especially in this bright sunlight is necessary from ND.9 and up, so the use of
a normal ND1.2 will already introduce some IR- pollution. If you have the opportunity use IRND
combination filters as high as you need an can get.

Bob, I would do my own testing (as always), as everyone has his own preferences and filters
aren't consistent although they share the same name ;-) My favourite filters are the Tiffen IRND
combination filters, have no experience with the Panchros on Alexa. To my experience
Hot mirror filters are not useful for the Alexa.

Best regards,
Gerhard

No experience with the Panchro hot mirror, but very happy with my set of Schnieder Platnium IRND's.  The 2.1 is especially interesting as it is so dark, but there is no IR pollution visible.

Chris, don't you loose a lot of skin tone with the Schneider Platinum?
The one's I had took too much visible red out of the picture, which resulted
in very pale skin!

Have not noticed that issue with my Schnieder's.  I find them a tad green, and usually add a touch of magenta.  There is no perfect ND, aside from partial mirrors.

So then I assume that they have brought out a new better series of the Platinum.

I don't know if Schnider has updated the process?

On a side note, I saw a set of ND's at Cine Gear Expo this year that were made in Japan.  They used a vectorscope to illustrate how neutral they are.  Unfortunately, they are not offered in the 5x5.65 square size I use.

I had the Panchro mirrors which were the best I've used in terms of colour but their tendency to reflect other filters in the tray and cause image ghosting in highlights was something of an issue for me. The trick was to make sure they were absolutely perpendicular to the lens plane so that the image ghost was literally projected onto itself - this was trickier than it might seem and even the slightest deviation caused this.

As far as colour went I found them the best with fewer shifts than other NDs.

Pancro is one of the best. Skin tone looks good. Not much green and magenta shift but color temp shift. When use it with the old lens. Must be careful with Image ghost.
