With the IBC show open today, are there any new makers of ARRI RAW capture devices or special announcements related to ARRI RAW with the Alexa?

Nugat,

Was there a mention of the upgrade price to use ARRIRaw?

Thanks

I was at IBC CD booth on Friday and all they confirmed was Christmas for arriraw. No price info for the firmware upgrade yet. The box itself is 6k$, so firmware can't be too bad.

Good to know.  I will be interested in checking it out when it's available.

So far, only Codex Onboard and S.two OB-1 received the ARRIRAW recording certificate.
I want to point out that there has been a significant price drop for the Codex Onboard recorder. The single channel ARRIRAW version now is 11500 EUR, the dual channel version for 3D or up to 60fps ARRIRAW (available with SUP 5.0) is 19000 EUR.

To be ARRI certified, any Raw recorder has to be able to put down the data uncompressed.

According to Convergent Design their single SSD delivers 415 Mbytes/sec read and 260Mbytes/sec write. Enough for uncompressed and AFAIK arriraw. However uncompressed 1080p60 requires over 300Mbytes/sec write and for that they claim to stripe two SSDs.

How about any onboard capture cards for a mac pro tower for capturing the uncompressed data right out of the alexa?

Why would you want to be tethered to a camera with a macPro Tower? Seems like an extensive and awkward setup..
I have a hard enough time getting AC's to keep a lockit box on the camera. If I told them they had to be tied to a tower, they'd all quit! Ha

You make a great point. Out in the field, forget it. However,
shooting in a studio would be easy to capture into a mac pro tower.

The only way I could see this working is with a Black Magic DeckLink 4K, but that doesn't support ArriRaw and I'm not sure if it's going too, I'm trying to find out though.

This is true. In a studio/stage environment, it wouldn't be that bad. And if the entire show consisted of such, than I could see that as being a simple solution.

It's possible that would be a fairly limited example though. But who knows!
