You can setup the Alexa to trigger the Codex to record by enabling the "SDI REMOTE" option. This sends a record flag in the HD-SDI signal along with clip name metadata. Timecode is embedded by the Alexa, so the Codex files and whatever type proxy files you record to will have the same clip name and TC.

I'm sure Convergent Design plans to do something similar.

Dear Friends,

We detect the "Record Flag" over HD-SDI or T-Link (ARRIRAW).
Thus, we will start recording when the ALEXA record button is pressed.

This is in our code now, and it is undergoing testing.

It is our goal, and we have code already implemented, to start recording on the same frame as the ALEXA's internal recordings. This is also undergoing testing right now.

Our code detects the "Record Flag", and immediate starts recording so that we record the frame that has the "Record Flag" in it.

The timecode on the internal ProRes files and our ARRIRAW files will be identical.

The Gemini 4:4:4 has hardware to support a Remote Start/Stop Switch.
We have not enabled that function in our firmware, but it will be as soon as practical.

We will fully support the use of the internal ProRes files for proxy (or offline) so that one can conform to the ARRIRAW files.

How about options on clip naming thru the Gemini?
Any way to update / add metadata / notes on the clips into the Gemini thru an iPAD, etc.?

Dear Rob,

We have requested some information from ARRI so that we can build the same Clip Name that they use.

It is our current understanding that they build the clip name from certain metadata fields.

We certainly expect this to be include in our release.

We do not have an iPad interface. But, since we will be using the clip name used in the ALEXA, one will just have to set the clip name in the ALEXA and we will use it.

Hey everybody, I'm not sure if ya all heard but CD sent out an email last week with these words:  "After months of development, Convergent Design plans to ship next week (to ARRI) a test Gemini with ARRIRAW firmware. While ARRI has already certified a single Raw frame captured from our Alexa and Gemini 4:4:4, full ARRIRAW Certification is expected before the end of February."

You can hit this link to my blog about the development:  http://thedigitalparade.blogspot.com/  or check out CD's Gemini 444 site:  http://www.convergent-design.com/Products/Gemini444.aspx

Dear Friends,

Here are the latest developments:

1. We had a conference call yesterday with ARRI to work out just a few final details.

2. Our Chief Engineer used the info from the call to adjust one item and will be finishing the final aspects of this very soon.

3. ARRI has scheduled February 27 to start the certification process of the Gemini 4:4:4 with the ARRIRAW Option.

If any issues arrise we will devote our full resources to resolving them as soon as possible.

We fully expect to release our ARRIRAW Option sometime in March. Of course, unexpected issues may arrise.

Our debayer, for live view, while recording, or while playing back is full 1920 x 1080 out the HD-SDI ports.

Our ".ARI" files that we are creating are working fine in the ARRIRAW Converter program, as far as we can tell.

So, it should not be much longer. We look forward to passing the ARRI certification.

I hope this helps.

Dear Rob,

Sorry, no.

This may be possible in the future, but is not currently on our roadmap.

ARRI also offers a de-squeeze license that I am guessing can be used thru the monitor out connection
if needed.

Rob,

You are correct, you can desqueeze through the monitor out or the EVF.

Dear Friends,

On Thursday, we sent our finished ARRIRAW Option plus a Gemini 4:4:4 to ARRI in Munich so that they can start the certification process on Monday February, 27th, as planned.

Our shipment has passed customs clearance in Germany, so ARRI should have it on Monday.

If everything goes well, the certification process may take only about a week. We are on track to deliver this option sometime in March.

Our real-time Debayer of the image results in a full-size image on a 1920 x 1080 monitor.

When we release this, after receiving ARRI’s certification, the ARRIRAW Option will be in every firmware release for customer evaluation purposes.

Gemini 4:4:4 users may test the ARRIRAW Option, whether or not they have paid for the feature (but there will be a watermark until the option is purchased through their dealer).

One small, but nice feature, is that we can display some of the ARRI Metadata on the Gemini 4:4:4’s LCD. When activated, one can see the current Shutter, Exposure Index, White Balance, CC values and if Log is active.

We have quite a few other Gemini 4:4:4 features and improvements in work.

That's wonderful news!
Can the Gemini444 grab stills in ARRIRAW also?

Dear Rob,

The Gemini 4:4:4 is not currently programmed to grab stills.

But, with the very high quality raw images that the Gemini 4:4:4 captures when in ARRIRAW mode, one could grab stills in post.

Dear Dan,

If you pass the certification at the end of this month, would the Gemini be coming out with ArriRaw at 60fps or 24 fps?
